On Friday, February 22nd, the Philippine Embassy hosted an event to commemorate the 27th Anniversary of the EDSA Revolution. Also known as the "People Power Revolution," it was a series of non-violent demonstrations in the Philippines that took place between 1983 and 1986 and was focused on restoring Democracy to the country. Ambassador Cuisia provided a historical perspective on the events that transpired and used the revolution as an example that helped open the door for other peaceful demonstrations around the world. Those in attendance, which included Filipino-American students from Catholic University and George Washington University, watched a documentary on Benigno (Ninoy) Aquino, his rise to political prominence, his fight for Democracy, and his legacy after his assassination.
