Event Recap: 2013 Dragon Boat Festival

FYP-DC is proud to congratulate both Dragon Boat teams (Lapu Lapu Warriors and the Rizal Revolutionaries) for winning medals in their respective divisions this past weekend at the 2013 Dragon Boat Festival held in Washington, DC.

The Lapu Lapu Warriors competed in both the 250m and 500m Open A-Major Draws, earning a silver medal in the 250m (1:17) and taking home the gold in the 500m (2:49). In addition, the team won the Open Community Cup for the best time trial (3rd year in a row).

The Rizal Revolutionaries earned a tightly contested 2nd place silver in their 500m Open B-Major race! They charged home in the final 75m to catch the team in first place only to run out of room before the finish line. A courageous effort. This team gets better each year and are always in exciting races!

Victor Ecarma, the Lapu Lapu Captain, had this to say, "The best part of this year's squads was having a lot of members (current and alumni) bring their children to watch their parents paddle.  These teams are truly a family and it continues to grow every year."

Theresa Cabat, the Captain of the Rizal Revolutionaries said, "While a majority of our team was comprised of first-time dragon boat paddlers, we worked together as a team, held our own against some really tough competition, and it was clear that we all had plenty of fun. Winning SILVER in Major B division is such a great accomplishment!"

Joni Ecarma (Lapu Lapu Drummer) added: "We had so much fun and are thankful for all your sacrifices and hard work to make this happen. Great job!! Now we can all start training for next year..."

The Lapu Lapu Warriors and the Rizal Revolutionaries had another successful year and proudly represented FYP-DC.
