Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose L. Cuisia, Jr. wishes to invite young Filipino Americans to a forum for the youth, which will be held at the Colony Ballroom of the Stamp Student Union building at the University of Maryland in College Park on March 2, 2014, Sunday, at 1:00 p.m. The event, dubbed as Merienda with Ambassador Cuisia, is organized by District 6 of the Filipino Intercollegiate Networking Dialogue (FIND), Filipino Young Professionals-DC, and the Philippine Embassy. Among those who will be in attendance are leaders and members of various Filipino-American student organizations, as well as young Filipino-American professionals in the metropolitan DC area.
This year’s Merienda follows successful fora held at the George Washington University in 2012 and the Catholic University of America in 2013. It is targeted toward the Filipino-American youth and will bring together a select group of Filipino-American personalities to discuss their experiences in FIND and their support of social issues. Ambassador Cuisia will deliver the keynote address. Among the confirmed panelists are Steven Raga – National Urban Fellow at AARP, Jason Tengco - Advisor on Public Engagement at White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, Jitter Garcia – Marketing and Events Executive at Dow Jones, A. Russell Santos – R&D Programmer at Casaplex, and Randy Lizardo – member of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists and an Assistant Clinical Professor of the George Washington University.
Second generation Filipino-Americans are an untapped source for leadership and talent and it is hoped that they may be encouraged to engage more actively in their respective Filipino-American communities and contribute to the development of the Philippines and the strengthening of relations between the Philippines and the United States.
