PRESIDENT: ABBIE ELLIOTT

Abbie Elliott is President of Abbie B. Elliott Communications. She is an inventive and proactive marketing and communications professional with proven experience in developing solid content strategies and publicity campaigns for corporate, non-profit, management, and membership-driven organizations. She has written for outlets like BuzzFeed, Slant News, WBENC, EyeWorld, Men's Confidence, AOL/The Huffington Post and The White House Commission on Remembrance. An international affairs and journalism graduate of the University of Mary Washington (then Mary Washington College), Abbie received a full MBA scholarship from East Carolina University. Her goal as president will be to continue the precedents set by the founders, increase membership and expand programming offered to members. Additionally, Abbie hopes to learn more about the Filipino and Filipino-American community as she builds cultural, educational and charitable ties--across members and member organizations.

VICE PRESIDENT: MARK AREVALO

Originally from Philadelphia, Mark Arevalo graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Information Science.  After several years working in private industry and earning an MS in Information Systems from New Jersey Institute of Technology, Mark moved to Maryland in 2010 for a position at the National Security Agency.  From NSA Mark transferred to the Department of Energy where he currently works as a Cyber Defense Lead.  Additionally, he serves in the US Naval Reserve as an Information Warfare Officer. Since he moved to the DC area Mark has been very involved with FYP.  He has met great people and has had the opportunity to attend many cultural, professional and educational events.  With Washington being such a transient city, FYP provides tranplants opportunities to meet new friends, make professional contacts and connect with the with the Filipino/Asian-Pacific American community.  Mark would like to focus on partnering more with APA organizations in the DC area as well as mentoring and recruitment events with local universities and graduate schools.

TREASURER: ROSE ARUTA

Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Rose attended private schools within the area up until college where she graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Marymount University. Shortly after graduating in 2008, she went on to travel various countries to learn and appreciate the culture in Italy, Australia, and even lived in the Philippines in Tacloban City, for three months to immerse herself with the people, language, and knowledge about Magellan and Lapu Lapu, while island hopping with family and friends. She firmly believes in the “Never Stop Learning” philosophy and continues to attend seminars and events to listen to other people’s life experience and lessons. On her down time she watches documentaries and even volunteers for DC Asian Pacific American Film, Inc. to bring social support and recognition to Asian actors and actresses in today’s Hollywood media. She hopes to serve as a liaison to open more opportunities within the FYP community.

SECRETARY / SOCIAL MEDIA: PAOLO SIAN

One day, Paolo went on Google and he typed in "Filipino groups in the DC area", and the first result that popped up was FYP-DC. He clicked on the page, read what the group is all about, and instantly joined the group! Ever since then, Paolo has thoroughly enjoyed his FYP experience thus far; from the exciting community events all the way to the awesome bonding opportunities with the members of FYP-DC. Being born in Manila, Philippines and moving to the U.S. at the age of 9, Paolo always had the urge to be around his fellow Filipino people and is a tried and true city boy. He first migrated to Florida and Alabama, living there for 2 years each, then finally settled in Maryland, for which he has called home for 20+ years. Paolo graduated from University of Maryland University College (UMUC) with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing.  He is currently running his own business as a Legalshield Independent Associate. In his spare time, Paolo loves to travel, being active in sports such as basketball, football, and pool, and enjoys hanging out in the city with friends and family. His ultimate goal as part of the FYP-DC Executive Board is to network and promote the Filipino culture in the DMV area while gaining valuable friendships along the way.
